No one noticed on the voting that I wrote Huckleberry Finn by Tom Sawyer. HA HA HA HA HA. Or maybe you all were being kind to me since I have the “no brain cells left after 3rd child”

Okay so voting is done. I figured we could take the top two books for the next two months. Since we are getting started late and people need time to get books I figured we could take the A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soilder book technically for Oct…although we can begin in September as people get the book. Then Lets do Huckleberry Finn in November.

So this year wraps up with August. I was thinking for this next year instead of picking all the books out in advance picking out one or two at a time and those of us present or into the book or blog at the moment can vote suggest etc and decide that way. Then I will add the selections.

Would love to hear any ideas. Here are some books I was interested in reading click on the book and it will take you to AMAZON.

Becoming a Member and New Book Selections May 15, 2007

I have had several emails about becoming a member in the last few weeks.  So for those that are interested we would love to have you and hear your thoughts and ideas.  Jump right in on our current book and leave your thoughts.  When you have been active on a book discussion for a month email me or leave me a comment and I will send you the about you questions and access to that area of the blog and the coffee talk section.  You will also be given access to post when you commit to leading a book discussion.  I figured this was the best way to set up so that info in the protected areas requires active participation to be a part of.

For those that are members and have never commented….hey we would love to hear your thoughts!!!  HEE HEE.  As we near the end of this years book selections I will be setting up a new area for book suggestions.  I am going to give priority to suggestions coming from those who have been active at least on one months selection first.  I am hoping to keep this going next year but with a new baby soon to arrive I am going to need all the help I can get to pull it off.  So lots of suggestions and women willing to lead books would be great.

Thanks gals

Extension and Little Break??? April 3, 2007

Hey gals. We are still trying to wrap up this last book Madame Bovary. It seems like we have lost some steam so I was wondering if we took the month of April to Wrap up Madame Bovary and have a breather and then start the next selection Snowflower and The Secret Fan May 1st if that would help. Give everyone time to catch up? I know it is a busy time of year with many traveling and school wrapping up. If the majority want to keep moving ahead we can wrap up this last book this week and jump in Monday on the new book. Please comment and let me know.

The big finish … what did you think?  What would you have done in Norah’s shoes?

I don’t want to give too much away here … but I was interested in how the Henry’s felt about things unfinished.  And also, do you think that Phoebe will get to live the life she dreams of?  What about the obstacles?

What do you think about what happened in Pittsburgh was so life changing for David? And wow, what do you think about Rosemary and her influence?

Here they are! The books for our year. Lead refers to the Member who will be leading the discussion on the book. Click on the title or picture to link to a description from Barnes and Noble. The books are listed in the order we will be reading. We will be starting in September so be sure to order your first books soon. I am taking the first one just so we can work out the whole topic posting thing. I will be giving you all information on setting you up to post on the blog in the next few days. That way you all are not just limited to commenting. When we start I will set up the books in their own archive and then the posts will follow chapters or sections. More to come on that in the next few days. I am pretty excited about the wide selection of books. I think it is going to be fun and give us a lot of things to discuss. Hope that you all are excited and ready to start too.

Reading List August 7, 2006

I have gotten your emails and I am working on the list now. I am hoping to have it posted some time tomorrow. I am working on the final edit of the list and the order. Trying to give a balance to the months in terms of how the books read. (which is not easy when I haven’t read everything 🙂 ) I also had several of the same books on different lists so depending on how the draw ends up, you might be leading a discussion on a book that was not your first choice even though we might be reading that one. So be on the lookout tomorrow.

Almost there. It will probably all be up tonight. I am setting up links to all the books and pics of all the books. Sorry for you East Coast Gals…the time difference will probably mean you won’t see the list until tomorrow. Unless you are up Super late.

Okay we have 11 members. So if everyone can email me at bethanyasj-bookclub@yahoo.com their top book choice I will start setting up the months. If there is anyone that doesn’t have a book choice or doesn’t want to pick one just let me know and I can fill in with the extra ideas people have had. Lets set a deadline of Monday for your book choices so that I can start working on the list and we can aim for everyone getting their books and starting in September.
