We are ready to pick books August 3, 2006
Posted by Han in Book Club Books.trackback
Okay we have 11 members. So if everyone can email me at bethanyasj-bookclub@yahoo.com their top book choice I will start setting up the months. If there is anyone that doesn’t have a book choice or doesn’t want to pick one just let me know and I can fill in with the extra ideas people have had. Lets set a deadline of Monday for your book choices so that I can start working on the list and we can aim for everyone getting their books and starting in September.
I’ll relinquish my choice to the group. I’m open to whatever. π
You are funny Michelle. I thought the Power of One sounded Awesome…or do you want to read something you have never read before. π
Your pick.
After I wrote that, I spoke with Jeff and told him what my suggestions were. He said you guys were going to hate me ’cause I suggested books that aren’t fun to read. So, now it’s really the groups choice. I’ll read those other books on my own whether they are chose or not. I don’t mind re-reading The Power of One. π
Michelle!! You are funny! I like those books!!! They may be old and considered nerdy to many but they are CLASSICS!! π
Can I make it an even dozen and join your group?
~jane swanson ~ Anne’s mother in love.
Jane yes the more the merrier!!!
Jane can you email me so I have your email address. Email me at bethanyasj-bookclub@yahoo.com
oh, i have another suggestion. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. I wouldn’t mind re-reading that one.
I’ve been thinking about C. S. Lewis’ “Til We Have Faces.” Has anyone read that?
Yes. It’s quite mythologically based (Cupid and Psyche). I liked it and would like to read it again. Lots to think about in that book.
Oh “til We Have Faces” is a good one…I’d read it again too! π
Sounds great Danielle, I actually have not read that one yet but I love his stuff.
When you email me your book choices list your top choice as number one and then list your second choice as number 2. That way If I get the same book from several people I can substitute. Once I get all the book choices I will make a list of them and the order we will read so that everyone can plan accordingly. Can’t wait. Thanks again all for being willing to participate. I know I am really going to enjoy this.
Another suggestion. The Giver by Lois Lowrey. Interesting ideas & lots to discuss.
BTW, Bethany, I love the look of this site!
Sorry! I haven’t had computer access this week! Here are some of my book thoughts, but I’m open to whatever (Bethany, I emailed these to you, as well):
Peace Like A River — Leif Enger
Housekeeping — Marilynne Robinson
Gilead — Marilynne Robinson
The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency — Alexander McCall Smith
Thanks Danielle! None of my boy’s stuff here so I can be girly. HEE HEE.
Heather your choices look good too!! This is going to be hard to narrow down.
I will put my list out here too so that I can know if anyone has already read these books…I haven’t…(although Nicole I know you have read one of them π )
1.Snow Flower & The Secret Fan – Lisa See (I know Anne mentioned this too)
2.Poisonwood Bible – Barbara Kingsolver
3. Clays Quilt – Silas House
If I don’t hear from Everyone on Monday then I will start pulling second choices from those that have responded. Okay?
I’ve read Peace Like A River and give it a thumbs up.
I’ve also heard that the #1 Ladies Detective Agency Series are good.
Can’t wait to see what books we end up with. π
I e-mailed my top 3 to you! π
